Trump, the betrayal

EXCLUSIVE. Former advisor for economic matters to Vladimir Putin, currently a refugee in the United Staes, Andrei Illarionov makes an extremely serious accusation against the Trump administration.

Under threat of impeachment, Richard Nixon was forced to resign on August 9, 1974. For a lot less than Trump today. In the United States, a President can be impeached for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Donald Trump already ticks all three boxes. The evidence is still lacking, and above all: an impeachment process would have to begin in the House of Representatives, before a trial is held in the Senate. Republicans have a majority in both houses. But how will they react to the revelations that the international press, not yet censored by Trump-Musk, will soon be releasing?

Be warned: this is not a fake news story, and the man speaking in the video below is perfectly credible. Andrei Illarionov, 63, is a Russian economist who advised the Russian government on economic reforms in the 1990s and was Vladimir Putin's economic adviser from 2000 to 2006. Upon resigning, he declared: “I do not want to work with the government we have, neither today nor tomorrow. When I accepted this position, it was for a State where there were possibilities and hopes for evolution... but a new growth of this State has occurred and a model of State corporatism has been formed”. After his break with Vladimir Putin, he went so far as to compare Putin's government to the regime of Adolf Hitler, and then took refuge in Washington where he joined (in October 2006) the Cato Institute, a liberal think tank in Washington.

What is so important in this video statement (recorded on March 4, broadcast yesterday evening)? The Trump administration made the decision to suspend all aid to Ukraine as of February 25, three days before the meeting with Zelensky at the White House, and well before it was announced on March 4. This decision therefore has nothing to do with the “dust-up” at the White House. Illarionov adds that the Trump administration warned a number of personalities as early as February 25. Illarionov does not say so explicitly, but one can easily imagine that Putin was one of these “personalities”, thus giving the Russians a head start in organizing their “response”.

This happened at the same time as Trump decided to stop all cyber operations against Russia.

What Andrei Illarionov is saying here is extremely serious. Because this is no longer a normal framework for diplomatic “negotiations” with Russia. By doing so, Trump is quite simply selling (or giving away) the United States to Russia. Even the Republicans should be concerned about the risks to national security that such a breach of trust can represent.

As for France (and Europe), Emmanuel Macron said last night: “I want to believe that the United States will remain by our side”. The teams at the Élysée, and the President himself, would be well advised not to give the Trump administration too much confidential information. It's a safe bet that it could be telegraphed to the Kremlin within the hour!
